Automated Flooring Bending System Breakthrough: Efficient Production of Square-Nose and Bull-Nose Profiles
For years, the production of stair nosing profiles, critical components that provide a finished edge to staircases and transitions, has been plagued by inefficiencies. Traditional methods often involve multiple manual steps, leading to inconsistencies in quality, high labor costs, and difficulties in scaling for commercial production. Conventional wrapping processes, which glue color film and a wear layer onto a separately extruded core, frequently result in differences in gloss, texture, thickness (leading to height differences), and incompatible click-lock systems.

The square-nose device utilizes a forming panel with three interconnected plates. Actuators rotate sections of the flooring panel to achieve the precise right-angled fold, creating a clean, modern edge.
The bull-nose device, in contrast, employs a rotor plate and a pair of rollers. The flooring is secured and then bent around the rollers to form a smooth, curved profile. These systems are designed to integrate into a production line that includes automated de-stackers, router stations for cutting grooves, and heating and glue application units before the final bending or folding process. This complete automation streamlines production, significantly reducing the need for manual intervention.
A key advantage of these advanced bending systems is their ability to address the long-standing issue of mismatched accessories. By utilizing the actual flooring plank as the raw material, the bending process produces stair noses that are an exact match. This ensures there is no height difference or gloss mismatch, and the final product maintains the same embossed-in-register surface design and click-lock system as the main floor. Furthermore, this method offers unprecedented flexibility for customization. Manufacturers can now produce stair treads with custom dimensions, including stepping surfaces wider than the traditional 300mm limit, and meet personalized requirements for different nose sizes.
